Artist statement - 8/05/2010:
The reconciliation of opposites, the synthesis of concept with form, the unification of color and space, and the illusion of order amidst chaos. These are the ideas I explore with my paintings.
All art comes ultimately from nature. The coral reefs are nature's most colorful and diverse palette. I have over 30 years experience with the aquarium hobby both professionally and as a lover of the sea. The relationship between colors made from water (paint), and colors living in water(reef life) is inescapable. The movement of my brush over the canvas echoes the movement of fish over the reef. There are an infinity of formations the reef animals can found in, just as there is an infinity of ways to paint.
While my paintings are fantasy, they are reflective of the most basic fundamentals of life.
